It was noon and we were craving a fresh coconut to escape the tropical heat.

This is how I discovered the charming area of Piñones.

Brightly colored shacks serve local Puerto Rican favorites right next to the beach. And they all happily cut open a fresh coconut to quench your midday thirst. Mostly a local destination, Piñones can be found on the palm tree lined scenic route from Isla Verde to Loíza.

Between the fronds swaying, the traditional cuisine, and the people…

I can’t help but feel the heart of Puerto Rico.

This is one of my favorite places to stop by and visit every time I am in Puerto Rico. In true island style, we grab some empanadillas, a few coconuts, kick off our shoes and sit by the sea enjoying our snack. Nothing fancy, but in the islands it’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon with friends and family.

Good vibes, delicious food, and gorgeous scenery. Yes, please!

Con mucho cariño,
